1. What are Solar Inserts and how do they work ?

Solar Inserts are produced from metalized polyester film that has high radiant heat reflective properties. They slide into the top cavity of the polycarbonate and form an integral part of the roof structure.

2. Are Ultrashield solar inserts expensive

Ultrashield solar inserts are the most effective way to cool your conservatory in the summer and retain the heat in the winter. They are less expensive than air conditioning, blinds and once installed are maintenance free, conservatory cooling has never been so simple and effective.

3. How do I know that solar inserts work ?

The technology was originally developed in the USA back in the 1930’s. Since then it has proved to be the most effective material produced to reduce solar heat gain and has been used all over the world. The idea of using this technology in polycarbonate roofs for conservatory cooling and glare reduction was introduced over a decade ago. Ultrashield solar inserts are also the most effective product to reduce heat loss through your polycarbonate roof, making your conservatory heating far more effective in winter.

4. What kind of temperature drop can I expect ?

You will experience a substantial fall in the temperature build up in your conservatory. In high summer you may well experience a drop in temperature by up to 40 degrees. You can expect it to be very similar to the external temperature, although this may vary slightly according to the aspect and style of conservatory.

5. Will the Solar Inserts help to keep the conservatory warmer in the winter ?

Solar Inserts help to reduce heat loss through the roof of your conservatory. Ultrashield solar inserts work in such a way that they reflect the radiant heat, which would normally be lost through the roof, back into the room. This causes the ambient temperature in your conservatory to improve, enabling you to reduce your conservatory heating bills.

6. Does the product come with a guarantee ?

Ultrashield solar inserts are guaranteed for the lifetime of the polycarbonate roof into which they are installed. The lifetime for a new polycarbonate roof is typically 20 years.

7. How can I be sure of the quality of your solar inserts ?

ltrashield solar inserts are manufactured to our exact specification. We have combined the highest quality biaxially oriented polyester film with the latest sputter coating techniques. We firmly believe that we have produced the best solar insert on the market. Ultrashield inserts are not susceptible to oxidization, corrosion or UV bleaching. Ultrashield solar inserts have been tested to ASTM standards; a worldwide certification for quality (www.astm.org).

8. Can Ultrashield solar inserts damage my polycarbonate roof ?

Ultrashield Solar Inserts are used by the largest polycarbonate manufacturer in Europe. They factory fit Ultrashield to their polycarbonate for use by the conservatory industry. Ultrashield considerably improves the performance of the roof. Many other large companies that supply the trade with new polycarbonate roofs also fit Ultrashield. All these companies maintain their guarantees for their polycarbonate when fitted with Ultrashield Solar Inserts.

9. Are Solar Inserts easy to install ?

As long as you can gain access to the ends of all the panels with a pair of steps and have no roof vents then installation is a simple process. Just follow the installation instructions provided. If you cannot gain access to all the panels i.e. your panel runs into a valley or gutter then you will need to remove the panel. If roof vents are present then the panel will need to be removed and the vent taken apart. We suggest that if you are not fairly competent at DIY then you may wish to consider asking your approved distributor to carry out the installation for you.

10. Do the Ultrashield Solar Inserts come in different colours ?

ltrashield are available in 4 different colours (the largest selection in the UK) Silver, Silver/blue, Gold & Opal please ask your local distributor to show you the colour samples.

11. Will solar inserts make my conservatory darker ?

You will lose a little light, but this will be far less than from any other form of solar control. If maximum light is important then choose the silver insert as this is the most transparent. The ambient light loss from silver is typically 5%.

12. Will plants still grow in my conservatory ?

High temperatures in conservatories will cause a greenhouse type effect thus inhibiting plant growth. Solar inserts create a more stable environment which allows plants to flourish. The important rays from the sun that influence plant growth are in the visible region of the colour spectrum.

13. Is glare reduced in the conservatory ?

Glare through the polycarbonate is reduced by up to 80% with the silver solar inserts and up to 87% with the Gold and Opal insert, making your conservatory much more comfortable.

14. Will fabrics still fade ?

olar inserts cannot stop the fabric on your furniture from fading as there are other factors involved. However they can reduce the rate at which the fabric fades. Our solar inserts reject 99% of the Sun’s harmful UV rays that would normally enter your conservatory through the roof. Ultrashield solar inserts have a UV barrier on both sides of the film unlike other similar products on the market.
