Product Quality
At Polysert we only use the highest quality materials available. As you can see from the makeup of our solar inserts there are many processes in creating our solar inserts, one of which is a specific UV barrier. This barrier reflects 99% of the sun’s UV rays preventing the solar insert from discolouring and stopping these harmful rays from entering the conservatory through the roof. These processes are only as good as the film they are applied to. We specifically use Biaxially Orientated Polyester Film (BoPET) opposed to Unilaterally Drawn Polyester Film (PET) as BoPET drawn film has superior qualities to the standard PET film.
Why Biaxially Oriented PET Film
When the film is processed through heated rollers it is simultaneously drawn in many directions ( Biaxially oriented) before being heat set under tension at temperatures of over 200 degrees. This process prevents the film from shrinking back to its original form and locks in the new molecular structure and orientation in the film plane. The process is responsible for creating the new orientation of polymer chains giving the high strength and stiffness which is unique to Biaxially oriented PET film.
Another very important consequence of this process especially when the film is being used in the makeup of solar inserts is that the new molecular orientation induces the formation of many crystal nuclei. These crystal nuclei grow rapidly until they reach the boundary of the neighbouring crystallite. These crystallites remain smaller than the wavelength of visible light. The result of this being that Biaxially oriented PET film has excellent clarity.
